IBA, ZAMBALES: The campaign of the provincial
government of Zambales against illegal mining operation in this
province scored anew after Zambales police impounded 12 dump trucks
and one 40-foot container van loaded with nickel and chromites in
the town of Santa Cruz, Zambales.
Gov. Amor Deloso of Zambales
lauded the efforts of PNP Zambales provincial police director,
Senior Supt. Arrasad Subong, Police Chief Insp. Dario Menor, group
director of the 314th Mobil Company in Camp Malimanga, and
environment and natural resources of Zambales for their latest
catch.
Menor, who headed the group, also
said that they have arrested 15 workers from the A3UNA namely
Emeterio de la Cruz of Santa Maria, Bulacan, Nelson Merza of Santa
Cruz, Zambales, Carlos Bobis of Palauig, Zambales, Nemecio Agan;
Lucas Col-coto; Wilfredo Mayo; Jayson Marave;Willie Pantaleon; Celso
Collado; Romulo Bustria; Niño Merza; Franklin Movilla; Dennis
Marave and Joselito Marave, all of Barangay Guinabon, Santa Cruz.
Governor Deloso rejected the plea
of a certain Engr. Jaime Lazaro, operations manager of A3UNA, to
release his workers.
“It is just right to punish all
those that disgraced the natural resources of our province because
they are the cause of the miseries of our people by not paying due
taxes to our government,” Deloso said.
“While you gain millions of
pesos in profit by destroying our environment, you forgot to give a
peso to develop the communities that host your operations. That is
injustice and it must be stopped,” he added.
Besides the fines, the arrested
suspects will be facing criminal charges for violation of Section
100 R.A. 7942, known as New Mining Act of the Philippines, the
provincial government estimates that the impounded nickel and
chromites is worth more than half a million.
