Gov lauds campaign against
illegal mining operation

IBA, ZAMBALES: The campaign of the provincial government of Zambales against illegal mining operation in this province scored anew after Zambales police impounded 12 dump trucks and one 40-foot container van loaded with nickel and chromites in the town of Santa Cruz, Zambales.

Gov. Amor Deloso of Zambales lauded the efforts of PNP Zambales provincial police director, Senior Supt. Arrasad Subong, Police Chief Insp. Dario Menor, group director of the 314th Mobil Company in Camp Malimanga, and environment and natural resources of Zambales for their latest catch.

Menor, who headed the group, also said that they have arrested 15 workers from the A3UNA namely Emeterio de la Cruz of Santa Maria, Bulacan, Nelson Merza of Santa Cruz, Zambales, Carlos Bobis of Palauig, Zambales, Nemecio Agan; Lucas Col-coto; Wilfredo Mayo; Jayson Marave;Willie Pantaleon; Celso Collado; Romulo Bustria; Niño Merza; Franklin Movilla; Dennis Marave and Joselito Marave, all of Barangay Guinabon, Santa Cruz.

Governor Deloso rejected the plea of a certain Engr. Jaime Lazaro, operations manager of A3UNA, to release his workers.

“It is just right to punish all those that disgraced the natural resources of our province because they are the cause of the miseries of our people by not paying due taxes to our government,” Deloso said.

“While you gain millions of pesos in profit by destroying our environment, you forgot to give a peso to develop the communities that host your operations. That is injustice and it must be stopped,” he added.

Besides the fines, the arrested suspects will be facing criminal charges for violation of Section 100 R.A. 7942, known as New Mining Act of the Philippines, the provincial government estimates that the impounded nickel and chromites is worth more than half a million.
