TOKUSHIMA, Japan: San Miguel-Pilipinas achieved a
measure of success Saturday in its return foray to international
play from a two-year sabbatical, beating dethroned champion China,
78-76, Saturday to salvage 9th place in the 24th FIBA-Asia
Championship at the ASTY gym.
It was the highest finish for a
Philippine team in the FIBA-Asia tournament, formerly the Asian
Basketball Confederation Championship, since 1991 in Kobe, Japan,
when the Nationals, handled by Francis Rodriguez, wound up in 7th
place.
