ILOILO CITY: Two Filipino communities in Lebanon and Brunei donated
two buildings to Iloilo Province under the Classroom Galing sa
Mamamayan Abroad project.
The buildings, with two classrooms each, were
turned over recently to the Alimono Elementary School and Passi I
Elementary School in Passi City.
Each building is worth P400, 000 or about US$
4,000.
Amy Judicpa, information officer of the
Department of Labor and Employment, said the latest donations came
from the Bistang Filipino Lebanon and the Mary Lim and Guo Zhan
Sheng, Brunei Darussalam with the Sugar Tripartite Council as
their local counterpart.
As of July, Judicpa said, Filipinos to coming
from various areas in Western Visayas have donated a total of 18
two-classroom buildings.
The program is a joint activity of the
Department of Labor, Department of Education, Department of Foreign
Affairs, and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce
and Industry Inc.
DOLE and DFA are responsible for sourcing out
funds abroad while the DepEd identifies areas where the buildings
will be rise.
The construction of the buildings was carried
out by the chamber of commerce.
