JOHN CARLO INGENIERO of SM Southmall displayed his awesome form in
the 19-23 mixed artistic freestyle Tuesday to capture his fourth
gold medal in the 2007 Skate Asia at the SM Mall of Asia skating
rink in Pasay City.
Ingeniero, who partnered with 2006 Winter
Olympics silver medalist Sasha Cohen in a show in Los Angeles two
years ago, bested Singapore’s Condrey Liu of Fuji Ice Palace and
Indonesia’s Natasaya Muliandari of Arena Ice Bandung to keep his
winning run in the tournament sanctioned by the Ice Skating
Institute of America.
“It’s still a long way to go. I’ve got
three events tomorrow and five in the next few days. I’ll just do
my best,” said the 22-year-old Ingeniero, who swept all his eight
events in the 2005 World Recreation Team Championship.
Ingeniero opened up his campaign in the
nine-nation tournament on a high note Monday by dominating the male
surprise, creative figure and mixed rhythmic gymnastic ball.
Ingeniero, the eighth most bemedaled skater in
the 2006 edition of this tournament held in Shenzen, China, also won
five silvers coming from the 8-22 couple spotlight and 19-23 mixed
figure 1, production, mixed interpretative and mixed speed events.
Also ruling their respective events were Jill
Chen in the 9-10 female artistic freestyle 2, Wong Yi Ching in the
11-12 female artistic freestyle 2, Chriselle Jeanne Mereader in the
11-12 female artistic freestyle 4, Mylyn Garcia in the 11-12 female
freestyle 1, Liezel Lopez in the 11 female freestyle 1, Esther Leong
in the 12-13 female freestyle 1, Angelica Martinez in the 14-18
female freestyle 1, Carolina Rufo in the 29-34 female freestyle 1,
Mak Yee Man Winsome in the 42-47 mixed artistic freestyle 2-3,
Thesia Yomalita in the 9 mixed artistic freestyle 3 and Diane Riesgo
in the 10-11 female artistic freestyle 3.
Other winners were Angelica Elmido (13-14 mixed
artistic freestyle), Jam Abby Chan (15-17 female artistic freestyle)
and Tessa Marie Pelayo (22-25 female freestyle 1), Aisley Noelle
Pondevida (7-8 female artistic freestyle 3), Marisol Al Benelayo
(18-22 mixed artistic freestyle 2), Angekla Biag (14-16 artistic
freestyle 2-3) and Talisa de la Rosa (12-13 female artistic
freestyle 3).
SM Megamall accumulated 3,750.50 points to keep
the lead followed by SM Southmall (1,215), Indonesia-based Skyrink
Jakarta (443) and Singapore-based Festival Walk Glacier (403).
