TULSA, Oklahoma: The prevailing wisdom has always been that Tiger
Woods has the heart of a champion, but now it seems the 13-time
major winner has developed the mind of one, too.
Woods was able to put the hammer down when he
needed to win the 89th PGA Championship which he captured by two
shots on Sunday to post his 59th career PGA Tour victory.
“I’ve been in so many different
circumstances to try and win tournaments and championships that you
start to get a feel for how to do it,” Woods said.
“You sort of begin to understand it and
understand the feel and the art of winning. I believe there is an
art to winning and understanding how to get it done.”
“When I am out in these championships, I can
rely on experiences from my past,” he said. “Sometimes it is
something from my professional, amateur or even junior golf days. I
reflect back on how I got it done and the circumstances can be very
similar and that’s the reason why I do it.”
Now that he has 13 major championships, Jack
Nicklaus’ all-time record of 18 is looking more vulnerable.
“When you first start your career, 18 majors
is just a long way away.” Woods said. “And even though I am at
13, it is still a long way away. You can’t get it done in one
year. It is going to take time, as I’ve said before. It took Jack
20 years to get it done.”
