Lucio Tan approves retention of airport

BACOLOD CITY: Business tycoon Lucio Tan favors the retention of the old Bacolod airport.

Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and members of the Retain Bacolod Airport Movement met with Tan over the weekend and presented to him their position on the airport.

The Philippine Airlines of Tan owns majority of the 37-hectare property where the old airport is situated.

PAL owns 20 hectares while the remaining 17 hectares belong to the national government.

Leonardia said Tan expressed his willingness to facilitate their meeting with President Arroyo to request the transfer of the government’s 17-hectare property to the city.
