We join the Filipino literati and the nation in congratulating the Philippine chapter of Poets, Playwrights, Essayists and Novelists (PEN) on its 50th year. The National Artists for Literature Alejandro R. Roces, Bienvenido Lumbera and Frankie Sionil Jose, PEN Philippines founder and national secretary, deserve our thanks. They have helped nurture the spirit of the organization and worked to sustain that spirit among the Filipino writers in English and in the other Philippine languages.

Today the 50th Philippine PEN Congress opens at the National Museum.
