THE inventory of the 1,317 ballot boxes from Pasig
City continued on Wednesday and was apparently slowed down a bit
with the careful scrutiny of each box being sealed by the local
Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Ma. Anne Gonzales, Pasig City’s
Comelec chief, said the boxes would be transferred to the Comelec
office in Manila where the Electoral Contests Adjudication
Department would recount the votes next year.
The local Comelec along with the
watchers from the camps of incumbent Mayor Robert Eusebio and
defeated candidate, former Congressman Robert “Dodot” Jaworski
Jr., carefully scrutinized each ballot box that were being sealed to
ensure that there are no alterations or switching done.
Jaworski, who ran but lost in the
mayoral race on May 14, requested the poll body to recount all of
the votes cast in the city’s second district, which has 1,067
precincts.
Eusebio, who was declared the
winner, responded by asking for a recount of votes cast in the first
district’s 250 precincts.
Eusebio garnered 116,463 votes
against Jaworski’s 107,141 votes.
