Suspects in fashion designer’s slay arrested

Three people are now facing charges of robbery with homicide over the killing of popular fashion designer Ernest Santiago.

On Wednesday, the police filed charges against Alex Mosende (Santiago’s foreman), caretaker Zosimo Ragasa, and Anjo Luces (Santago’s secretary). Reports said that the suspects would be given ten days to file their counter-affidavits.

Pagsanjan Provincial Police Director Felipe Rojas said that Mosende was Santiago’s live-in partner for 28 years while Ragasa and Luces have been part of Santiago’s household for 17 and eight years, respectively.

Police reports revealed that a dumbbell was used to hit Santiago on the head, which immediately caused his death.

Rojas said that Mosende and Luces were released but are still under further investigation while Ragasa is under the custody of the Pagsanjan police.

Ragasa positively identified Mosende and Luces in his sworn statement as his accomplices. He also admitted that robbery was their motive for committing the crime.

Mosende and Luces were nabbed early Wednesday morning while attending the wake of Santiago at the Sanctuario de San Antonio, Forbes Park in Makati.

Earlier reports said that the suspects robbed the victim after learning that the latter had withdrawn P200,000. Santiago’s Mitsubishi pick-up van, an undetermined amount of cash, expensive jewelry and other valuables are still missing. Ruben Manahan 4th.
