Barangay captain faces criminal cases

TALAVERA , Nueva Ecija: A barangay captain in Nueva Ecija had allegedly hit with a gun a 16-year-old high-school student in Barangay San Ricardo during a students’ night rumble, police said reported on Wednesday.

The barangay head, identified as Eduardo “Edong” del Rosario, reportedly “slapped several times” then hit the victim Lincoln Galang, a fourth-year high-school student of San Ricardo National High School.

Initial investigation disclosed the victim’s group engaged in an altercation with another group of students about 10 p.m. on December 14, during the students’ night, prompting barangay peacekeepers to respond immediately. But while students were already pacified, Galang told probers, del Rosario arrived and without a word “slapped him on the face several times.”

Police also reported that a Bantay Bayan member, identified as Manny del Rosario, kept his gun of unspecified caliber pointed to the victim’s waist. “After slapping the victim, Barangay Captain del Rosario pointed a .38-cal. on the victim Lincoln Galang, then hits on the head three times using the same gun,” police added.

The victim sustained head injuries, police said.

Charges of slight physical injuries, grave threats and violation of Republic Act 7620 or Child Abuse was filed against del Rosario before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
