386 illegal vehicles impounded

The Presidential Task Force Kontra Kotong and Kolorum (PTF-KKK) impounded 386 motor vehicles of various types for operating illegally as public utility vehicles during its campaign against colorum vehicles from November 26 to December 18.

This was reported Friday by Energy Undersecretary Roy V. Kyamko, PTF-KKK operations head, to Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes, who heads the task force.

Kyamko said that the task force also arrested 24 individuals for extortion: 10 policemen; seven Land Transportation Office agents; two local government employees and five civilians. Thirty-two policemen who were investigated for alleged extortion were exonerated.

Ramon Fernandez, head of the traffic engineering office of the Makati Public Safety group, was arrested on December 7 while allegedly receiving P15,000 in “protection money” from jeepney drivers. His case is pending preliminary investigation by a Regional Trial Court.

Larry S. Sinohin, a barangay traffic enforcer of Barangay E. Rodriguez, Cubao, Q.C., was arrested on December 11 after allegedly receiving marked money. He is out on bail pending trial, Kyamko reported.

Reyes said he wants to stop all kotong and colorum activities.
