Industrialization has its costs
and the most tragic is the extinction of many species. These
magnificent creatures forever lost, can now only be seen by children
in museums and picture books. Inebriated by the comfort of modern
life for long, man seemingly became sober in recent years and began
treating nature with more respect. It is an awakening that many
hope, is not too late.
In the Philippines, a
commendable, collaborative effort to save the endangered giant clams
or taklobos (Tridacna gigas) was initiated recently. The initiative
to give the taklobos a new habitat was a joint project of the Hamilo
Coast, SM Investments Corp. (SMIC) pioneer eco-tourism project and
the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines).
