LAS VEGAS: Boston Celtic swingman
Gerald Green posted the top three scoring dunks to win the Slam Dunk
Contest as part of the National Basketball Association festivities
leading to Sunday’s All-Star Game.
An
extraordinary leaper, Green defeated defending dunk champ Nate
Robinson in the final round Saturday, closing with a perfect 50
score from the five judges on the final jam.
“I am so
excited. I have always dreamed about being in the dunk contest,”
Green said. “I never dreamed about actually winning it.”
Green’s
perfect score in front of a crowd of 15,694 at the Thomas and Mack
Center arena followed his windmill slam while leaping over a table.
He jumped over
Robinson in the first round to register a 47 and had Paul Pierce lob
him a pass off the backboard for a 48 on his first slam.
He finished
with a 91 total score in the final round, beating Robinson by 11
points.
“I didn’t
think Nate was going to let me use him. But I wanted to use Nate
since he was the champ. I wanted to take it away from you, so I am
going to use you as a prop,” said Green, who also possesses an
excellent jumpshot.
