CHOT Reyes was humble enough to
admit that San Miguel Beer’s recent slide in the TNT-PBA
Philippine Cup finals can be attributed to his inability to prepare
the team to finish off Barangay Ginebra after taking a 2-0 lead.
“I think
I’m doing a terrible job as a coach preparing the team. We can’t
match up the intensity and energy of Ginebra,” said Reyes, who
never lost back-to-back games this conference since starting the
All-Filipino tournament with 0-3.
“Good thing
we have four days to make the adjustment. We can rest some of our
key players like Dorian [Peña] and Danny I [Ildefonso],” Reyes
added.
The Kings,
after losing the first two games of the best-of-seven series,
managed to level the count at 2-all with a pair of 30-point wins in
Games 3 and 4 that suddenly put the momentum of the sister-act duel
to them.
“Now, it
seems that Ginebra becomes the favorite in the series and we’re
the underdog. That’s fine with us,” Reyes noted.
