Canillo, Sugalan top Milo race

MALOLOS: Michael Canillo clocked 1:07:41 to win the Bulacan leg of the 31st National Milo Marathon elimination that started and ended in front of the Bulacan Sports Complex here Sunday.

Gerald Sabal, younger brother of 2005 Milo champion Cresenciano Sabal, checked in second in 1:08:30 while Modesto Madalang placed third 1:10:49.

“Determinado akong manalo. Ako’y masaya at hindi ako nabigo,” said the 19-year-old Canillo of Lanao del Norte.

“Ngayon pa lang uumpisahan ko na ang ensayo para paghandaan ko ang finals dahil mabigat ang mga kalaban ko,” said Canillo, who earned P10,000 in cash. Sabal and Madalang received P6,000 and P4,000, respectively.

Vanessa Sugalan, a 19-year-old native of Meycauayan, ruled the distaff side in 1:40:45. Mila Paje clocked 1:42:30 for second place followed by Rosemarie Radaza (1:45:35).

The top three finishers in the men’s and women’s divisions will advance to the grand finals on November 18.
