BAGUIO CITY: The Baguio city government and its
residents are all set to hold this Saturday and Sunday the “Panagbenga,”
the floral festival that has drawn thousands of visitors every year
to this mountain resort 250 kilometers north of Manila.
The floral parade is expected to
dazzle the viewers with various designs and the enormity of fresh
flowers used to decorate the floats that are estimated to be worth
more than P20 million.
“At this early, we have steady
increase of guests and visitors. We expect more this weekend. It is
very timely also for hundreds of children nationwide to see for
themselves our festival which had become an institution in terms of
tourism and environmental protection since 1996,” Bautista said.
The acting mayor was referring to
the 15,000 school journalists, who are here for a weeklong press
conference.
According to Bautista, Baguio has
double-checked as of last month all the measures to assure the
expected thousands of visitors arriving for the festival’s main
features this weekend.
Such measures include not only
security and traffic assistance, but also the needed lodging
facilities, water, communication, transportation, government
assistance and several others.
