CEBU: Golden Boy Promotions
vice-president Eric Gomez said World Boxing Organization top
challenger Z “The Drean” Gorres needs to win against champion
Fernando Montiel of Mexico in their 12-round title fight tomorrow to gain
prominence in the world boxing map.
Gomez said that the
superflyweight title fight against Montiel dubbed “The Moment of
Truth” at the Cebu City Sports Center here is hard for the rising
Cebuano boxer, but he has a good chance of winning considering his
preparations for the last six months.
“To promote Gorres, he must be
victorious. It’s hard for him but he has a good chance,” said
Gomez during Thursday’s press conference.
Gorres, who carries a 26-1-1 with
12 knockouts record, said that he is in high spirit and vowed to
claim the WBO belt before an expected full house crowd.
“This is the longest
preparation I had in my career and never I felt so much eagerness
since I turned professional in 2001,” said Gorres.
In the other bout, Rey
“Boom-Boom” Bautista seeks for the vacant WBO intercontinental
super bantamweight against Marino “Zaino” Gonzales in another
12-round championship affair.
Gonzales is the last minute
replacement for Fieder Villoria of Columbia, who had a visa problem.
Jimrex Jaca also wants to avenge
the loss of fellow Filipino Cesar Amonsot, when he faces Indosian
Simson Butar-Butar in the 12-round Asia-Pacific super featherweight
championship in the third main event.
