Pasig police chief at a
loss over raid on LRT compound

THE Pasig City police chief cannot account for the raid a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team conducted at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) compound in Santolan, Pasig.

Sr. Supt. Francisco Uyami was reportedly unable to explain the raid to the Eastern Police District (EPD) director, Chief Supt. Luisito Ticman, and LRT Authority chief, Mel Robles.

Uyami also failed to identify the 12 SWAT men who conducted the raid.

At a meeting at the LRTA offices in Pasay City, the three officials discussed the February 14 incident where the SWAT men swarmed all over the LRTA compound supposedly to investigate a bomb threat.

Robles could not believe Uyami’s claims that he did not know any of the SWAT men nor was he aware of what happened during the “raid,” when records from the Pasig City hall indicate otherwise.

Ticman lectured Uyami on the importance of maintaining an atmosphere of peace and order at the LRT.

The raiders, their nameplates covered and armed with handguns and assault rifles, were led by Sr. Insp. Reydante Ariza and Senior Police Officer 3 Andreo Mendez.

The presence of the SWAT team panicked the public utility vehicle drivers who were using the compound as a terminal.
