Isabela mayor’s
poll victory
declared illegal due to fraud |
|
By Francis C.
Hidalgo Jr., Correspondent
RAMON, Isabela:
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has declared the 2004 election
victory of this town’s mayor as illegal due to gross
irregularities in the recanvassing of election returns.
In its 27-page
resolution dated January 31, copy of which was obtained yesterday,
the Comelec’s first division ruled that the proclamation of Mayor
Wilfredo Tabag as null and void, saying the votes credited to him
were obtained through fraudulent means, thus his proclamation by the
municipal board of canvassers (MBOC) was deemed illegal.
