RP memo confirms
fears
of Asean Summit threat |

Allies of the terrorist group al-Qaeda could have slipped into the
Philippines last month in preparation for an attack aimed at the
12th Association of East Asian Nations (Asean) Summit in Cebu,
according to documents from the Department of Justice.
A January 3 memorandum, signed by
Justice Secretary Raul M. Gonzalez and addressed to Immigration
Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr. and National Bureau of
Investigation (NBI) Director Nestor Mantaring, quoted a December 4
letter from the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime (PCTC).
