‘XaviX’ way of losing weight

By Lea Manto-Beltran

AFTER the Christmas season quickly comes Valentine’s Day, and from there, the hot summer, beach days. After indulging into the holiday delights and putting on those extra pounds and inches, it’s time to lose weight and keep fit not only to look good for our loved ones but to be good to ourselves too.

How to lose the weight is what troubles a whole lot of folks nowadays, what with so many fads and the option of trimming down via surgery. If you ask international superstar Jackie Chan what to do (yes, the funny, karate-chopping Chinese can talk about weight loss), he’ll tell you to try out XaviX.

XaviX, developed by Chan himself, is a new way to exercise using everyone’s favorite box, the TV. He promises that it will get people into shape right in the comfort of the home at the most convenient time. How? The XaviXPORT is a machine that easily connects to the AV input of any standard television set. Once plugged in, the user can compete against the console or another player in a multitude of sports by using a proprietary processor that creates a truly interactive experience.

It’s a fun way of burning calories with the following interactive physical activities:

Aerostep. It’s just like being in Jackie Chan’s fitness gym. Sweat it out and burn calories! Go run, jump and dodge obstacles in the streets of Hong Kong, or simple follow Chan’s movies in a variety of cardio workouts that will also boost endurance and improve rhythm. All this, while the XaviXAerostep system keeps track and records your workout and calories burned.

PowerBoxing. The Jackie Chan Studio Fitness Powerboxing uses wireless boxing gloves to test endurance, speed and reflexes. Users can block, weave and punch their way through five challengers to win the Championship Belt, or practice in Training Mode to stay in shape. Fun exercises will improve your skills as you begin your path to win the title bout.

Tennis. Step into the action and up to the net to play tennis as if you were on the court. With every swing of the wireless racquet, the technology senses the angle and speed of your movements and translates your action onto the TV screen. Challenge yourself in Tournament mode, practice your serve and finish or rally. Take on the system or compete against a friend in split screen, two-player mode. The XaviX Tennis offers realistic high-definition graphics and stereo sound effects in one of four grass, clay or hard courts.

Bowling. This interactive application allows you to experience the fun and interaction of a real bowling match at home. Users may bowl a full ten frames, race against the clock, or try to hit the moving pins in other fun competitions. Challenge up to three friends or take on the system itself. You can control the number of hooks on each ball, and can select ball colors and character profiles.

Golf. For golfers who have no time to go to the green, XaviX provides an interactive game to play on the TV. Unlike a typical videogame, Golf is just perfect for practicing your swing in the same way as XaviX Tennis.

XaviX is available at Electronics Boutique branches at Alabang Town Center, Park Square 1, Festival Supermall, Robinsons Galleria, Market! Market!, and Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall.
