All lucky
charms you need for a
prosperous Year of the Fire Boar! |
DOING the right thing and
striking a balance should improve almost everything—one’s
personality, career and even one’s day-to-day living. It should
also resolve problems in love, familial relationships and
friendships. That is the promise of feng shui year in and year out,
and the coming Chinese New Year of the Fire Boar in February is no
different.
As always, a refresher’s course
in feng shui is appropriate this time of year. Feng Shui, which
literally means “wind” and “water,” is all about positioning
things in a certain way—the “right” way—to achieve a balance
with one’s surroundings and in one’s life. It also entails such
things as a lucky color, a lucky number and a lucky direction for a
particular year.
According to feng shui expert
Maritess Allen, “There are two opposing elements for this year,
water and fire.” She elaborates that the northwest direction is
the lucky bearing for the Year of the Fire Boar. In effect, if your
living room or dining area is positioned in this direction, an
increase in income can be expected for it is where the Prosperity
Star—which brings financial success and good fortune, especially
to the fathers—is located. Fathers, however, will generally have
little patience for everything this year, which is why they should
take time to understand a situation before reacting to it in order
to arrive at the best solution.
Allen also suggests the common
feng shui practice of having a water fountain in the home or flowing
water to enhance one’s luck in money. In terms of specifics for
the Year of the Fire Boar, displaying Mandarin Ducks in the living
room will help to increase love in one’s life.
For more specific and
personalized feng shui, Allen invites the public to attend a two-day
event, “Getting Rich and Staying Safe in the Year of the Fire
Boar” with herself and fellow practitioner Lilian Too on January
27 and 28 at the Premier Cinema of the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay
City.
“This is open to everyone,
despite religion, for feng shui is a science. It is not made to
manipulate one’s life but to serve as guide,” she clarified.
