KEN BONO produced a performance worthy of his MVP
status Thursday as Cebuana Lhuillier Pera Padala out-lasted TeleTech,
81-72, in their do-or-die showdown and clinched a quarterfinal berth
in the 2007 PBL Silver Cup at the Emilio Aguinaldo College gym in
Manila.
The 6-foot-5 UAAP MVP played like
a wrecking ball at the most crucial stage of the game as he drained
long baskets, pulled down rebounds and perhaps the most important
one—he defended so well to the delight of coach Luigi Trillo.
“He’s truly a gem of a
player,” said Trillo. “He played great defense this time along
with Macky [Escalona] and Doug [Kramer.] And he also let his other
teammates involved in most of our plays.”
Despite his unselfish plays, Bono
still finished with a game-high 26 points, including a crucial trey
in the fourth that highlighted a vicious 11-0 run.
That salvo gave the Moneymen a
75-71 advantage which turned out to be big enough as the Titans
failed to make another serious attempt.
