And the Oscars might go to…


THE week that was in Hollywood was all about the Oscars. AFP’s Rob Woollard reported that Los Angeles was buzzing with anticipation as the race for Oscar glory entered its final phase with the grand announcement of nominations for the 79th Academy Awards. It happened dawn on Tuesday at 5:38 a.m. local time (1338 GMT). The honor roll (yes, a mere nomination in the Oscars earns any director, actor or film practitioner an invaluable mark of distinction) was made from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Beverly Hills offices.

“No cell phones will be allowed into the building and we’re cutting off Internet access,” Academy spokeswoman Toni Thompson told AFP before the closed-door deliberation. “We do this every year to stop news getting out before the announcement.”
