Family of woman hit by train assured of aid

Mayor Freddie Tiñga of Taguig City has assured relatives of a woman run over by a train on Thursday of the city’s support.

Ma. Loreta M. Leobano, 43, of Gumamela Street, Western Bicutan, was sideswiped by a train that also ran her over in Parañaque. Her three-year-old son, RB, escaped unhurt.

The victim’s husband, Benito, is working in Saudi Arabia and Loreta had no immediate family around.

On Friday Tiñga met with Benito’s nephew, Ramon Leobano Jr., in city hall and tasked Grace Pagkatipunan of the mayor’s office and social welfare officer Jurita Olvido to provide them with all the necessary assistance.

The mayor said the victim’s son will be granted a scholarship once he starts going to school.

Olvido, on the other hand, helped the Leobanos search for immediate relatives of the victim.

Tiñga also ordered Pagkatipunan to get in touch with the funeral parlor where the victim’s body lies and make the necessary arrangements so Leobano’s relatives can claim her body.

Pagkatipunan said the city government will also help the victim’s family with death benefits from the city government’s burial program.

Police said Leobano was buying garden soil near Naty’s Garden beside the railroad tracks when a train swiped her.
