Former senator John Osmeña said on Saturday that if
he is going to run again for the Senate it would under the United
Opposition banner.
Osmeña made the remark as he
refuted news reports that he was negotiating for his inclusion in
the administration’s senatorial ticket.
“It is true that I have
declared my intention to run for the Senate in the coming May
elections, but only if I will be part of the UNO coalition’s
lineup,” he said. If he does not make the ticket, he has no plans
of defecting to the administration side or running as an
independent.
He acknowledged that there are
many contenders vying for slots in UNO’s 12-member slate.
Osmeña said that if he is not
chosen by the UNO selection committee, he has other options in his
home province of Cebu, where he was also a former congressman. “In
whatever capacity, I will definitely help further the cause of the
opposition,” he said.
