The newly inaugurated MGP building, which stands on
the corner of España and San Diego Streets in Manila, is a
secondary colored contemporary four-story building. Owned by the
dynamic entrepreneurial couple Eli and Beth Pascual, I was tasked to
design the second floor area following their preference for space
allocation and function. The finished project features a guest
bedroom with a toilet and bath and balcony; a conference room with
toilet and bath, which also houses the company president’s office
and the control and securities area; and the showroom with the
manager’s area, a space for the secretary and a small waiting
space.
The design concept incorporates
natural wood with the office interiors along the stellar colors
black and dirty white, and red and orange for minor hues.
A mixed media of photographs and
photocopier parts (the couple’s business) are used as an
installation on the landing. The showroom, meanwhile occupies 50
percent of the second floor with a display of risograph and
photocopying machines. The flooring makes use of plain 18” x 18”
dirty white ceramic tiles to make the area appear bigger, echoed too
by the walls and ceiling, which are painted in white flat stain. The
secretary and manager’s area breaks the pattern with black flat
stain paint and guest chairs in orange and tomato.
The conference room has a wood
Wenge-finished rectangular table for 8-seats adjacent to a counter
table for the company president’s use.
The guest bedroom is designed as
a guest room for visiting business associates. It has a warm
ambience with natural wood planks for the flooring. A landscaped
balcony compliments the bedroom.
