Sharon Cuneta to deliver a
star-studded pre-Valentine’s show

By Rome Jorge

SHARON CUNETA, a megastar to many of her fans, won’t be alone shinning for her Valentine’s concert. She’s bring all the brilliant hits from Isn’t It Romantic? triple-platinum album as well as the song currently being recorded for Isn’t It Romantic? 2 and 3. She’s also bringing in stellar performers the Apo Hiking Society and Pops Fernandez. And there even stars backstage: Louie Ocampo on musical direction, Johnny Manahan on stage direction. Fanny Serrano on hair and makeup and Paul Cabral on wardrobe.

My Mega Valentine 2, a follow-up to last year’s highly successful concert and celebration of Cuneta’s 30th year in show business, will be held at the Araneta Coliseum on February 10, 8 p.m.

The Isn’t It Romantic repertoires include: “Sometimes A Love Goes Wrong,” “Until You Come Back To Me,” “It Takes A Man and A Woman,” “How Deep is Your Love,” “I’ll Have To Say I Love You In A Song,” “Laughter in the Rain,” “Terminal,” “Simple Jessie,” “Like A Lover,” “Birthday Song,” “If I Keep My Heart out of Sight,” “Heaven Knows,” “With a Little Help from My Friends,” “I Don’t Want You To Go,” Or “To Love Again”).

Cuneta is most excited about performing with Fernandez, dubbed by many as the concert queen.” “It would be such a thrill if Pops and I could get together. It’s the first time I’ll perform with her. I hope we have plenty more things to do with her,” says Cuneta, hinting at future collaborations. She recalls, “I saw Pops grow up. She was my classmate at IS [International School].”

Cuneta humors her sexy co-performer, “My advice: I hope she tries to loose weight. I don’t want her to look bad beside me.”

Besides collaborating with Fernandez, Cuneta confides that she dreams of co-starring on film with the legendary Vilma Santos and Dolphy. Of pairing with Santos, she says, ‘It’s my dream movie. My life wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t do it.” She reveals that plans are afoot to produce films where she costars with leading men Aga Mulach, Christopher de Leon and Robin Padilla once again. She adds, “I just want to do films that I like.”

She refutes rumors that she plans to follow her father’s and her husband’s footsteps into politics. She says, “I didn’t get my dad’s stomach for it.” “Only one percent of politician make their people happy,” explaining that as an entertainer she makes people happy every time they watch a movie, listen to an album or go see her concerts.

Nonetheless, she extremely proud of her husband, Francis Pangilinan, whom she attests is honest and true. She does reveal a secret of his; that he is an incorrigible singer who will not let go of the microphone at karaoke events and shows.

All these and so much more Cuneta revealed to friends in the media. Such is the warmth and candor of an accomplished star, a fulfilled mother and a beloved wife who celebrates 30 years in show business. The same love she will shower to fans who have know her just as long this February 10 at the Araneta Coliseum in her concert My Mega Valentine 2.
