ON THE PROWL

Dell rocks Eastwood City

THIS past weekend, Eastwood City was definitely alive and kicking as thousands of the Metro’s talented and determined youth swarmed the Libis party hub’s Central Plaza to have fun with friends and possibly find a career with Dell, one of the latest multinationals to set foot on Philippine shores. The three-day event dubbed “Dell Rocks,” served as the inaugural celebration of Dell’s brand-new contact center located within Eastwood City.

“We love the Philippines and Dell is here to stay and help grow careers!” These were the exuberant words of Mike Garrison, Dell Philippines country manager, as he welcomed students, fresh graduates, jobseekers and party people alike to the weekend shebang, which signaled the enthusiasm and anticipation of how Dell is set to “rock” the nation.

Hosted by Magic 89.9 DJ’s Mojo Jojo and Teta News, the rockfest wowed partygoers with band performances from Up Darma Down, Swissy, Orange and Lemons, Starflower Show, Join the Club and Rivermaya. Also on hand to support the successful event were hundreds of Dell employees clad in vibrant red shirts who also wowed the crowd with their testimonies about their experiences with Dell as they spoke to the crowd and gave away prizes to those in attendance.

“We want people to know how fun and exciting our company is,” exclaimed Susheel Bahsin, director for Dell’s Libis site as he addressed the crowd. “What other company would think of throwing a bash like this? Three days of great music from some of the country’s best rock bands!”

“With Dell you can build a lifetime career and climb the corporate ladder. You’re not just stuck in the same position, we grow careers,” said Robert Gonzales, Dell talent and acquisitions manager. “One may start with a technician position but with talent and hard work, they can end up in HR, Communications, or in other parts within the company here in the Philippines or at other Dell locations around the globe.”

Dell employs over 75,000 people around the world and has more jobs waiting to be filled in the Philippines since opening shop here about a year ago. With a sundry of positions available ranging from entry level to higher-level employment, “Dell Rocks” proved to be a creative way of introducing Dell’s new contact center as well as raise awareness regarding the new opportunities it has brought.

Doy Roque of Media Meter, the innovative agency and workhorse behind the successful event said, “Dell is Dell—other than being one of the world’s most admired companies, it is definitely a pioneer. ‘Dell Rocks’ is an exciting example of what they can do.”
