Game time!

Nine Nintendo DSs gone in
60 seconds, LOTR MMOG comes out in April

WHILE the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 are fighting it out as to which console sold the most during the holiday season, the Nintendo DS cooly walked away with the crown for best-selling gaming hardware.

According to Nintendo’s calculations, nine DSs are sold every 60 seconds with total sales already amounting to $10 million in the North and South America since its debut. The DS sold 1.6 million units in the United States in December alone ending an already positive year for the system with a bang.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was proud of his company’s portable and boasted, “More than 5 million people joined the ranks as Nintendo DS owners in America last year alone. And right now, they’re all saying the same thing: ‘Give me more!’”

For fans clamoring for a Lord of the Ring Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG), the long wait hopefully comes to an end this April. The game was first announced almost 3 years ago at the 2003 Electronic Entertainment Expo when Vivendi Games (then Vivendi Universal Games) proclaimed that it would publish Middle-earth Online in 2004.

The game was delayed to 2005 for fine-tuning and was subsequently delayed again to 2006, at which point VU jumped ship and Turbine decided to publish the game on its own and give it a new name. In early 2006, Midway Games looking to expand its presence in the PC market, signed on to copublish the game, which finally went into its closed beta testing in late 2006.

Tips of the week

Armored Core: Last Raven

Completion Bonus: Successfully complete all 75 missions. Press Start to pause game play, then press Start + Select to resume the game in first person cockpit view.

Bonus parts: In the “Shutdown Energy Plant” mission: Boost up to the top entrance and dispatch the two armored MTs. Continue until you reach the area with the lone armored unit and destroy it. Go into the room directly behind the MT and destroy the two-fire breathing GURENGE MTs. In the middle of the room on the floor is the AC left arm energy shield FUTEN. Continue to finish the mission, but destroy the AC pilot G. Faust and the PULVERIZER MT to acquire it and an additional part, the CR-WH01SP right arm shotgun.

Guild Wars Nightfall

Reduce Elementalist damage: There is a high number of Dervish, an Elementalist bosses that can easily deal over 200 damage. Taking a monk with Protective Spirit will lower their damage to just 10 percent of your maximum health.

Hero’s Ascent: In the qualifying round of Hero’s Ascent, you can order your heroes and henchmen to attack the Zaishen without triggering the timer. This makes it possible to always earn a 10-percent morale boost.
