Comelec-Cebu identifies four
election ‘areas of concern’

CEBU City: The Commission on Elections (Comelec-Cebu) identified two cities and two municipalities as “areas of concern” based on initial assessment made by poll officers assigned in the said areas.

Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Edwin Cadungog identified the two cities as Lapu-lapu and Toledo while the two towns are Daan Bantayan and Madridejos.

However, Cadungog said, this will still need confirmation by the police.

The Comelec-Cebu Provincial Office has already scheduled a meeting with the Cebu Provincial Police Office early next month.

Last Tuesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) identified 49 election hotspots all over the country with Bicol Province taking the top spot.

The President likewise tasked the PNP to pinpoint election hotspots and maintain police visibility in places dubbed as “areas of concern” during the entire election period.

Meanwhile, with the approval of electronic campaigning (e-campaigning) by the Comelec, candidates can now court voters through the Internet and short messaging services.

The poll body, however, has yet to draft the guidelines on how to regulate the e-campaign.

In today’s high-tech electronic world, the e-campaign is a welcome strategy for candidates, especially those with limited election campaign funds.

A news report bared that a senatorial aspirant spends about P20 million at the very least while with the e-campaign, candidates can reach millions of voters nationwide even from the candidate’s base headquarters alone.
