Mayor not keen on appointing a
PMA graduate as police chief

CEBU City: Mayor Tomas Osmeña will not be endorsing police officials who are Philippine Military Academy (PMA) graduates for Cebu City Police Office’s (CPPO) top post.

“PMAers have an elitist attitude in the Philippine National Police. They don’t give a chance to new policemen,” he explained.

Though Osmeña did not categorically say he would pick Senior Supt. Patronicio Comendador as CCPO director, the policeman is already a shoo-in because of his outstanding record and being a non-PMA graduate.

The mayor said he prefers Cebuanos and non-PMA graduates, and Comendador satisfies both requirements.

“Many qualified policemen are not given proper assignments because they don’t have the connections,” he said.

Another reason he prefers non-PMA officers is that military work, on which the PMA graduates are trained, is different from police work.
