Maynilad Water Services, Inc. has started to overhaul
the entire pipeline network of Paco and Pandacan towns in Manila in
an effort to improve the areas’ water service as well as minimize
lost water revenues.
In a statement, Maynilad said
that the P147-million project, dubbed the “Total Pipe Replacement
Project at Paco and Pandacan,” involves the laying of a new
18-kilometer pipeline to replace the existing network in this
portion of Manila.
The company aims to improve water
quality, supply and pressure in 12 barangays in Paco and 32
barangays in Pandacan.
Ronald Padua, Maynilad’s South
Manila Business Center head, said that once the project is
completed, a total of 106,188 people from 18,336 households will
benefit from the project.
This project is in line with the
initiatives of Maynilad’s new owners, DMCI and Metro Pacific
Corp., to improve service quality in the West Zone which includes
cleaning up the water system of illegal connections, leaks, and
addressing overdue accounts.
Once the new pipes are laid,
Maynilad expects to bring down the level of Non-Revenue Water (NRW)
in the area, which currently stands at 72 percent. NRW is water lost
due to leaks in the aging pipes or due to illegal connections.
