A ‘technosexual’ affair

The millennial generation is being defined by the freedom that technology created to connect with anyone, anytime, anywhere in the world. It has led a new kind of sexual revolution: where technology meets sexuality, this generation is all about spontaneous, instant connection.

With an eye always turned toward pop culture movements, Calvin Klein Fragrances introduces a new collection that captures the technosexual moment happening right now: ck IN2U. This avant-garde rebellion took Manila by storm in their recent launch at the Fort’s Embassy Super Club where the bold and the beautiful reveled the night away!

“ck IN2U speaks the language of a generation connected by technology—the aptly named technosexuals, a term that Calvin Klein has trademarked,” says Lori Singer, VP of Global Marketing, Calvin Klein Fragrances. “They are the first generation to be defined more by their means of communication rather than fashion or music. Constantly at play on the phone or web, they communicate with a shortened language allowing for a quicker, more effortless way to stay connected.”

A technosexual (tek-noh-SEK-shoo-ul) is immersed in a lifestyle of social technology, staying connected with each other via MySpace and text messaging.

The technosexual joins the pop culture lexicon alongside the metrosexual, a much-used term used to describe men interested in style, culture and grooming. Even the Jetrosexual (New York Post, 2/4/07) took flight. Described as the ultimate globetrotter, this jetsetter takes luxury travel to new heights by flying off on a moments notice to the coolest international hotspots to hook up with friends old and new.

Because this generation’s means of communication is so different, so is the way that they connect with each other, whether romantically or for a casual hook-up. It’s easier to text “I’m IN2U” than to say that you like someone when they are standing right there.

This generation of lovers and friends is meeting and courting each other via technology. At eCrush.com, a site for teens and young adults, some 2.4 million registered users communicate through prewritten lines that appear via drop down screens. Popular choices include, “OMG! You’re so hot!” (The Wall Street Journal, 2007)

They want to meet the right person and fall in love someday, but for now they want to live in the moment. “For the Millennials it is all about living in the now, coupled with a desire to keep their options open,” says Lori Singer.

“With our new fragrance, ck IN2U, we aim to capture that moment.” The brand captures this lifestyle creating an online community for young people to meet others who are ‘IN 2’ the same things and offering a spontaneously sexy fragrance.

Calvin Klein Fragrances capture the technosexual character of the millennial generation with its first non-unisex ck fragrances: ck IN2U for him and her.

Look for ck IN2U in stores August, 2007.
