THE Muay Thai Association of the Philippines is
planning to hire a foreign coach to train its national athletes for
the Southeast Asian Games slated December 6 to 16 in Nakhonratchasima,
Thailand.
MTAP president Roberto Valdez
wants to get the services of Thai coach Pud Pad Noi, who steered
France to the title in a prestigious tournament in Europe.
“Our players are training so
hard because we want to win medals in the SEA Games,” said Valdez.
The Philippines lost two
potential gold medals in the coming SEA Games after the removal of
the women’s wai cru (form) events won by Victoria Agbayani,
Cristina Custodio, Claire Domapog and Lianne Flameno during the
Manila SEAG two years ago.
“The removal of the two events
was bad news for us but there are other events where we might win
medals, like the combative events where Roland Claro won the
gold,” said Valdez, who is optimistic that the Filipinos can
deliver in some of the 12 events calendared this year.
Besides the 2005 SEAG gold
medalists, also named in the RP team tentative lineup are silver
winners Zaidi Laruan, Brent Velasco, Rogelio Garganera and Davis
Panisigan.
