A world of w a n d e r s

By Amiel Martin A. Cabanlig

Scintillating, electrifying and utterly captivating! This is the dynamic spectacle of “Wanders,” a one-of-a-kind extravaganza that is poised to revolutionize the local entertainment scene. A key project of Pagcor, “Wanders” is a visual and aural treat which enchants audiences with gravity defying aerial acrobatics, stunning displays of skill and physical prowess, soulful renditions of timeless classics and vibrant dance numbers.

Invited to the special press screening at the Pagcor Grand Theater, Airport Casino in Parañaque City, Popoli was enthralled by classically trained dancers from Russia and top acrobats from China as well as some of the finest Filipino performers in a stage production which raises the bar of family entertainment.

Welcomed by Pagcor’s vivacious Raul J. Teehankee, the eager crowd was stunned by the diverse mélange of talents of entertainers from the East and the West. Bringing together the elements of theater, concert, circus and dance, it was a multimedia setting that could not let us want for more.

“Wanders was conceptualized and produced—not by a London—or New York-based theater company, but by Filipinos with a vision. We no longer relied on foreigners for their ideas and expertise but collaborate with other creative minds in the region to develop a show that is truly world-class,” said Pagcor Chairman and CEO Efraim Genuino, the visionary behind this mammoth undertaking.

“Likewise, we aim to provide homegrown talents the opportunity to work in a production at par with international standards,” he adds.

Trained in ballet and jazz dance, the Russian dancers in “Wanders” hail from Moscow and Belarus. Dazzling the audience with their exquisite moves and stunning costumes, they perform to the beat of a live band and in tandem with local stage and singing stars Nonie Buencamino, Calvin Milado and Frenchie Dy. Adding pizzazz to the stage are top Philippine dance groups Whiplash, Hotleggs and the Manoeuvres.

The Chinese acrobats, on the other hand, were handpicked from various troupes in the Henan province of China, considered the breeding ground of the world’s top gymnastic performers. In addition, the ensemble also boasts three contortionist girls aged 9 to 13 who are considered the crowd favorites.

With its vision as provider of total entertainment, Pagcor is all set to become a global corporation in touch with global and Filipino values. “Wanders” is glittering example of this triumph brought to the world stage!
