THE Cultural Center of the Philippines, in cooperation with the
Metro Manila Community Orchestra, presents Cradle Music: Symphony
for Babes and Babies at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’s
Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) on July 1, 2007, at 3
p.m.
The Metro Manila Community Orchestra, under the
musical direction of Maestro Josefino Chino Toledo, performs light
classics specially programmed to appeal to young listeners and their
guardians. Ventriloquist Kuya Ony (Ony Carcamo), Dingdong, the baby
gorilla puppet, and actors from Tanghalang Pilipino interact with
audience members as they introduce the parts of the orchestra, the
composers and concert-going etiquette.
This fun-filled one hour family treat performers
Bizet’s Carmen Suite’s Prelude, Copland’s Prairie Night and
Celebration Dance from “Billy the Kid,” Kasilag’s Lullaby from
“Philippine Scenes,” Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Mirlitons and
March of the Toy Soldiers from “Nutcracker Suite,”
Stravinsky’s Circus Polka, Gershwin’s Promenade, Anderson’s A
Trumpeter’s Lullaby and Syncopated Clock, and Saint-Saens’
Carnival of the Animals.
This innovative concert taps into established
research findings on the benefits of classical music to child
instruction and emotional development. While the child is still in
the mother’s womb, classical music stimulates the baby’s brain
development; balances the mind, heart and body; calms, soothes and
lulls the baby to sleep, researches have shown. Early listening
exposure to classical music develops and substantially contributes
to the child’s emotional intelligence and social skills.
The concert is presented with the support of
Community Innovations. Ticket prices are at P700, P500, P350 and
P200. Children below 12 months old are free of charge. Children from
13 months to 4 years old are entitled to 50-percent discount.
Students are entitled to 50-percent discount while senior citizens
are entitled to 20-percent discount. Children aged below 6 must be
accompanied by a guardian.
