THE Government Service Insurance System (GSIS)
celebrated its 70th anniversary recently at the Sofitel Philippine
Plaza in Manila. GSIS employees presented through grand musical
numbers the institution’s seven decades of history. Amid the
performances, a giant screen flashes rare photographic footages of
characters that shaped the institution’s 70-year story among them
are Luis Rada Salvosa, Ph.D, the father of GSIS; Antonio delas Alas,
the first GSIS policy holder; and Salvador Lagdameo, the first
general manager of GSIS.
Also presented during the event through a series
of skits was the agency’s Automated Wireless Processing System
(G-W@PS). Hailed as one big stride closer to a paperless and
wireless GSIS, the company’s digitalization project aims to
provide fast and efficient services to GSIS pensioners all over the
country. GSIS president and general manager Winston Garcia shared
that the (G-W@PS) combines some of the most advanced technologies in
the world such as radio frequency identification, biometrics,
general packet radio service, short messaging service and virtual
private network. “No other institution here and abroad has
embarked on synchronizing these technologies to develop a complex
but user-friendly system in order to fully secure multiparty,
end-to-end, paperless transactions,” Garcia added
The celebration’s highlight was the awarding
of the Seven Achievers in Public Service. The awardees were Ninie C.
del Rosario, education supervisor; Reinelda C. Raffiñan, local
government operations officer; Carmen C. Cubrado municipal
agricultural officer; Pedro M. del Rosario, administrative aide;
Melecio B. Fernandez, social welfare assistant; Gerry B. Baucan,
