To celebrate the feast of Our lady of Piat, patroness
of Cagayan Valley, devotees living in Metro Manila will attend a
special Mass on July 7 at 8 a.m. at Santo Domingo Church on Quezon
Avenue, Quezon City. Tuguegarao Archbishop Diosdado Talamayan will
officiate in the Concelebrated Mass with the Divine Savior Marriage
Encounter Choir singing. Cagayanos are especially invited according
to Carmen Carag who heads the organizing committee. This will be the
37th year that Piat devotees gather in Santo Domingo Church, while
the traditional mass will be held in Piat, Cagayan. Dr. Carolina
Prada initiated the yearly celebration. Pilgrims from Northern Luzon
will begin gathering in Piat for the Novena Masses from June 23 to
July 1at the Basilica Minore de Piat. The present Rector is Msgr.
Samuel Baculi. The devotion began in 1604 when the Dominican
missionaries brought the image from Macau to Cagayan Valley.
