THE sport of tae kwon do gets a big lift here when
the Philippine Tae Kwon Do Association hosts the SMART Korea
Kukkiwon (world tae kwon do headquarters) poomse certification
course on June 22 to 24 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
“In hosting this course, PTA
gives our instructors the opportunity to upgrade our standard and
keep the pace with the rapid developments in tae kwon do,” says
organizing committee chair Sung Chon Hong.
Around 300 PTA instructors from
Metro Manila and other regions will attend the course which aims to
update them on the newest tactics and methods employed in the sport
all over the world.
Poomse or form is an essential
part of tae kwon do as it develops the martial spirit of the
practitioner. Poomse involves the enhancement of balance,
coordination, timing, speed and power in arty, graceful manner thus
bringing out the real spirit of an individual.
Three Korean lecturers from the
world tae kwon do headquarters will conduct the course. They are
Song Bong Sup, vice president of Kukkiwon Tae kwon do Academy, Lee
Chong Kwan, director of education department of the same academy,
and Hwang In Sik, chairman of the education committee.
Hwang will share with the
participants the latest development in poomse in different belting
levels and blackbelt forms. He says that as one advances in the
sport, poomse’s level of execution and complexity also goes up.
