Globe Telecom, Inc., the Philippines’ second
largest mobile-phone provider, announced Wednesday it has partnered
with Yahoo! to provide mobile Internet services.
Under the agreement, Globe will
distribute Yahoo!’s popular mobile search service, the Yahoo!
oneSearch, Yahoo! Go for Mobile, and other mobile Internet services
on the myGlobe WAP site.
Globe said in a statement the new
services will give consumers access to news, images, financials and
weather report, among others.
“Globe brings the best Internet
experience to mobile users in the Philippines and our groundbreaking
partnership with Yahoo! will enhance our offer to our
subscribers,” Gerardo C. Ablaza Jr., president and chief executive
of Globe, said.
“Filipinos are some of the most
advanced users of mobile technology in the world and we are proud to
be chosen by Yahoo! to partner in delivering innovative services to
the Filipino people,” he added.
Globe’s total mobile phone
subscribers in the first quarter stood at 16.9 million.
David Ko, vice-president and
general manager of Connected Life Asia, Yahoo!, said Globe is an
innovative operator in the Philippines and the company plan to
integrate its services to bring the best mobile experience for
Filipinos so they can do more with their mobile phone.
“Partners are essential to our
mobile strategy and we are starting a relationship that will
continue to evolve and add value to our respective customers,” Ko
added.
Meanwhile, ePLDT, the information
and communications technology unit of Philippine Long Distance
Telephone Co., said it will introduce a new service called Unified
Contact Center Plus, a pre-integrated suite of cost-efficient
call-center applications.
The new service offers a complete
contact-center suite that seamlessly unifies various multimedia and
multi-channel capabilities not typically possible in non-IP
solutions.
