Curls can be captivating this wedding season

THE pretty brides of beauty guru Ricky Reyes sashay in their prettiest curls this wedding season. Contrary to popular belief, curls do not make brides look old. In fact, curls are this season’s hottest styles for that all-important occasion in every woman’s life—her wedding day.

“Curls are the in look for today’s modern bride, they make you look unique, more authoritative and truly special on your wedding day,” affirms beauty Reyes.

Reyes warns though that stylists and brides must know what type of curls fit their look. It is also important to consider what time the wedding is to achieve maximum effect both for hair and makeup, with all the lighting, the theme of the wedding and the overall atmosphere of the special event.

Here are some more tips from Ricky Reyes for the bride of 2007.

• Hair color. Have the hair colored weeks before the wedding so the bride and the people close to her will get used to the new color of her hair. It will also prevent smear and stain on the gown. New colors like light coco brown and chestnut brown suit brides of all types of complexion. Brown hair is ideal so that when the light hits the face, the bride’s face is softer and it glows.

• Soft curls are in! They make the features of the bride softer and more feminine. They can be worn in various styles too, depending on the age, height and complexion of the bride. “The shorter the bride, the higher the hair can go to add height, but this will also depend on the height of the groom,” explains Reyes.

• Updo! Upswept, in a dainty ponytail of curls, half ponytail with dangling curls, or some playful kissme on the sides—all these give the bride a new look that will surely make heads turn as she marches down the aisle. China chop bangs are out!

• Test makeup. When you have your test makeup, make sure that you have already colored and curled your hair. The look on the test make up and the test photo should be the closest to the look you will want to achieve on your wedding day.

• Clean palate. The bride should have a clean, fresh face and she can achieve this by undergoing regular skin-care appointments months before the wedding. Eyebrows too should be trimmed symmetrical, according to the shape of the face.

• Makeup for morning weddings. Use makeup that is on the light pink to the light brown shade. This gives the bride the fresh glow that is ideal for morning weddings. For darker complexions, light brown and mauve hues are recommended. Red lipsticks are a big no-no!

• Makeup for afternoon weddings. Brides should go for the dramatic, elegant look that fits the bride’s change in aura as the sun lightens up. Light pink to dark browns can come into play. Always remember to put shades of pink under the eyebrows to separate them from the brown shade to define the eyes and the brows. For brides with dark complexion, glitters can help accentuate the afternoon glow.

• Makeup for evening weddings. Browns and magentas are recommended for evening affairs because they emphasize the features of the bride more.

• Accessories should be simple especially for young brides. Young brides can get away with wearing flowers on their hair. Brides in their twenties may wear a small tiara for accent. Pearls and diamond studs are also very safe as hair accessories. Gloves can also be used in late afternoon weddings.

As a final tip, Ricky says, “Remember that you are a bride and not a fashion model, so no experimental hair do and makeup, please.”
