Oprah is the new star of Hallmark Channel

CABLE television’s Hallmark Channel has a new star in Oprah Winfrey. Channel owners Sparrowhawk Media have closed a deal with CBS Paramount International, the distributor of Oprah’s talk show, to give Hallmark Channel exclusive access to the Oprah Winfrey Show in Asia. It will screen Mondays to Fridays and the program even gets an additional bonus timeslot every Sunday, too.

Hallmark Channel managing director for Asia Pacific Andrew Hanna said, “This is truly a fantastic deal—Oprah, without question, is one of the most influential names on television and we are delighted to have secured these rights.”

Oprah’s Filipino fans and followers can expect only the latest episodes via cable television. Her shows highly anticipated celebrity interviews and inspiring stories sit well with a universal audience and complements the cable channel’s platform of showcasing quality entertainment on the boob tube.

Hanna added, “Our channel’s commitment to proving our viewers with unrivalled quality programming is further strengthened by this deal. Nothing touches the heart more than the everyday life-changing experiences faced by real people and nobody brings these more passionately to life than Oprah.”

Some of the noted personalities that will be seen on Oprah’s show are mega-straight forward American Idol celebrity judge Simon Cowell, amazing Desperate Housewives lead actress Felicity Huffman, and grand slam winner Forest Whitaker.

The much-awaited inauguration of Oprah’s Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa is also scheduled in one heart-warming episode. This project is part of Oprah’s many humanitarian endeavors, and was realized through a partnership with the South African Ministry of Education. The school was built on a sprawling 21 hectares outside Johannesburg and has initially signed up 450 students who will get the education they cannot afford to have.
