Bamboo takes everyone back to school

By Johanna M. Sampan

ALL kinds of students can be found in school—the natural born leaders, the smart ones, jocks, nerds, fashionistas and rebels. And you can simply distinguish them from one another by the way they dress and the kind of music they’re listening to.

Each pupil has its own attitude, personality and character. But mostly they fused into attitude-driven stuffs such as things that liberate their minds, may it be music and fashion statement. Recently, the famous fashion brand Penshoppe and the phenomenal rock band Bamboo have combined forces, not just to sell clothes, but also to put attitude on each outfit that they’d worked on.

After the third album, there’s no wonder that rock icon Bamboo Mañalac and his band composed of Nathan Azarcon on bass, Vic Mercado on drums and Ira Cruz on guitar can sell halo-halo on rainy days. Their music had sold millions of copies, propelled them to multimillion-endorsement deals, and made most ladies I know, go-crazy over him, his band and their music. They have been educating the minds of people through their rock music—much like taking them to school.

Penshoppe, already 21 years in the business, has a lot of stories to tell on why they chose Bamboo as the new endorsers of their clothing line. “Their music truly connects to the youth,” intoned Gigi Tibi, marketing manager for the brand. “They’re the No. 1 band in the Philippines and having them to be part of Penshoppe is an honor more than a privilege,” she added.

Penshoppe’s campaign is called “What have you learned today?” Bamboo, being the new ambassador of music and style, is not just all about fashion statements but also as an outlet for the self-expressing and independent-thinking Filipino youth.
