ILOILO CITY: Liberal Party (LP) president
Franklin M. Drilon said that after his term expires this June 2007,
he intends to focus on rebuilding the Liberal Party.
Drilon said that he is ready to
forgive and welcome those who have parted ways with the original
membership while questioning his leadership.
He has said this soon after Antique
Gov. Salvacion Zaldivar-Perez graced and expressed joy on her
reconciliation with Drilon during the oath-taking of Iloilo Gov.
Niel D. Tupas Sr. and the other elected officials in the province
this afternoon.
In her message, Perez thanked
Drilon for forgiving her and reconciling with her again. “I am so
happy we are together again,” Perez said.
She further quoted as saying,
“Thank you, Senator Drilon for forgiving me for what I did.”
Drilon also showed elation. He
said that he has already forgotten what happened when Governor Perez
joined the LP-Atienza wing.
He said that like Tupas, he
regards Perez as his close friend and that he would be willing to
give any advice solicited from him even if he’s no longer a
senator.
Perez, when interviewed, said
that although she has met Drilon for several times in the past, she
feels more warmth in their greetings this afternoon.
She said that she drew the ire of
the senator when she declared all the positions in the LP vacant
then. However, she said that she would never be scared to do what
she believes is the right thing to do.
She added that it was because of
her loyalty to President Arroyo that she chose to be under the
leadership of Manila Mayor Lito Atienza then.
