THE Philippine Karadeto squad scored another
remarkable performance as they captured four gold, three silver and
four bronze medals in the 3rd Trofeo Sardegna Karate Championships
in Italy.
Southeast Asian Games veterans
Cherli Tugday and Mae Soriano led the charge of the national squad
following their gold medal finish in their respective weight
categories.
Tugday, Manila SEA Games bronze
medalist topped the -60 kg individual kumite over compatriot Mimi
Manansala while Soriano ruled the women’s -53 kg individual kumite
against Marits Campbell of Ireland.
“We are happy with the results.
Maganda ang kinalabasan ng training ng mga atleta natin sa Italy and
we are hoping na magtuluy-tuloy ang magandang laban sa SEA Games
this December,” said Philippine Karatedo Federation tournament
director Jose Manansala.
Soriano and Tugday later on
teamed up with Manansala and Alma Cabasal to snatch the women’s
kumite gold.
In the men’s division, Rolando
Lagman proved to strong in the -65 kg individual kumite in this
two-day meet participated by France, Greece, Ireland and host Italy.
