MalacaÑang has extended to June
30 the deadline for the submission of courtesy resignations of the
heads of corporations and financial institutions owned or run by the
government.
Executive Secretary Eduardo
Ermita said Wednesday that there were still 98 state financial
executives who have not given their resignation letters to the
Office of the President.
He said that as of Wednesday only
19 heads of Government-Owned and -Controlled Corporations (GOCCs)
and Government Financial Institutions (GFIs) had submitted their
resignations, but that was because the order issued by the President
early last week has not been officially communicated to all 117
GOCCs.
Ermita said some of the
government executives learned about the President’s directive
through the media.
Among the officials who have
forwarded their resignations to the President are those of the Home
Development Mutual Fund, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board,
Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp., Philippine
Reclamation Authority and National Power Corp.
Ermita explained the Search
Committee headed by Secretary Bernardino Abes had not evaluated the
resignation letters received because it was still seeking
clarification from the President in the case of agencies where the
supervisory power is under one specific department.
He noted the need to replace the
GOCCs and GFI heads because they were holdovers and have overstayed
in their posts.
Ermita said that aside from the
vacancies in the positions there are members of the board or chief
executive officers from government corporations that “have to be
replaced because of the criteria on performance.”
However the changes should be put
on hold temporarily until the President issues a clarification.
Ermita dismissed reports that the
President has accepted the resignation of Napocor President Cyril
del Callar and that Alipio Badelles is being considered as his
replacement.
“We have no information on
that. All I know is Napocor—Mr. [Cyril] del Callar is one of those
who submitted. But it does not follow that it’s been accepted
because all these have not even been forwarded to the President
yet,” Ermita said.
He said that while there were
delays in the submission of the resignations, the direction of the
reorganization would clear up by the first or second week of July.
