Women get basic lessons in self-defense

Around a hundred enthusiastic women attended the practical self-defense classes billed Draw the Line Self-Defense Clinic held in different branches of Slimmer’s World recently.

These lessons are being taught simultaneously taught in select branches of Slimmer’s World all Saturdays of this month and is organized by the program Women’s Desk of QTV.

Women’s Desk is a program that aims to combat domestic violence and the abuse of women and children. Besides learning about the program’s campaign of promoting the rights of women, these women participants are also taught on how to physically defend themselves against the abusive behavior of men, with the help of martial-art experts from different participating organizations.

In this weekend clinic, participants are taught how to properly react in the event of physical abuse, even hold-ups, and how to use their personal belongings like umbrellas, bags and brushes as weapons against a suspect.

Interested participants are encouraged to join and learn useful self-defense techniques today, June 23, in the Adriatico, Caloocan, Binondo and SM North branches of Slimmer’s World.

Together with Rhea Santos and other women who continuously speak against abuse of women, we can all speak up and promote the rights of women through the Draw The Line Campaign of Women’s Desk of QTV.
