Capiz lawmaker junks JdV for House Speaker

ROXAS City: Congressman-elect Antonio del Rosario (Liberal Party, First District, Capiz) will support Cebu solon Pablo Garcia’s bid for Speakership in the House of Representatives.

The outgoing Roxas City mayor said he and 15 elected LP congressmen have decided to throw their support to Garcia against Speaker Jose de Venecia.

“I will stand by the party whatever happens,” he stressed.

Del Rosario told reporters here that Garcia assured them, particularly neophyte and nonadministration congressmen, of equal sharing of Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).

“Even if you are allies or not, he (Garcia) assures us of equal share of PDAF. Unlike de Venecia … only allies of Malacañang will have a share,” he said.

Del Rosario ran under the LP-Senators Franklin Drilon and Mar Roxas wing.

There are 120 neophyte congressional representatives elected during the last elections.

The three-termer mayor has been in Manila for the past days to familiarize with his new work and organize his staff in Congress. He announced that of the six staff allowed by Congress to each solon, four will be built-in staff of outgoing Cong. Rodriguez Dadivas and only two will be coming from him. The two would be his cousin, Alberto “Jojo” Roldan and another would be from his children.

Del Rosario said he would have a district office at the Capiz Provincial Capitol to be provided by Governor-elect Victor Tanco Sr.

Even if most of his time will be in Manila, del Rosario said he will try his very best to pour into the First District of Capiz projects. He will also support the bills of Roxas. He said his constituents would remember him by his projects realized during his almost nine years stint as mayor of Roxas City.

Some of his major legacies are the ongoing P10-million People’s Parks in Barangay Baybay here. The project will further boost Capiz’ claim as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines, the Paseo de Catedral, museum, public plaza, public market, police outpost, the hortus botanicus garden, Libas fishing port, barangay halls and centers, concreting of roads and streets, among others.
