IT couldn’t be any tighter. Lyceum and San
Sebastian kept their 1-2 positions heading into the last two semis
playdates in the Shakey’s V-League but they remain unsure of their
stints in the finals as two other teams stay in the hunt.
Thanks to their sweep of their
first two games in the semis, University of Santo Tomas and La Salle
are just a win away from gaining a playoff for the second
championship berth via the league’s 3-of-4 incentive rule.
That makes tomorrow’s
penultimate semis playdate crucial with Lyceum shooting for the
first final spot against UST, which in turn is eyeing a third
straight win for a crack at the playoff for the second final berth
in the 2 p.m. encounter.
La Salle, out to keep its
four-peat campaign alive after a shaky elims performance, plays
also-ran Ateneo in the 4 p.m. main game of the event, sponsored by
Shakey’s Pizza and organized by Sports Vision. But the Lady
Archers are expected to encounter stiff resistance from the Lady
Eagles, out to spoil the Taft-based squad’s bid despite being out
of the final race.
A win by UST will make the
Lyceum-San Sebastian encounter on Tuesday a duel for the outright
final slot with the loser dropping into playoff with either UST or
La Salle, which will figure in the first of two playoffs for the
second final spot.
Lyceum, behind Sherrilyn Carrillo
and Josielyn Dego-rostiza, firmed up its final bid with a scary
five-set win over a stubborn Ateneo side last Thursday.
The Lady Pirates also gained from
the Tigresses straight-set win over erstwhile joint leader he SSC
spikers as they seized the solo lead with a 7-2 mark.
Meanwhile, the SSC-UST duel will
be telecast on NBN-4 today from 2 p.m. Games are also replayed over
Viva Prime from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Mondays thru Saturday.
